The Washington Wrap

With the Washington Redskins facing a huge week 17 game against the New York Giants on Sunday that will either extend or extinguish the 2016 season, we felt it was time for the On the Warpath listeners to get as much insight as possible, even if it's from a division rival...

That's why your hosts Anthony Raposa and Robert Henson have dialed up former New York Giants Cornerback Brian Witherspoon!

Together, they ponder whether or not the huge amount of pressure facing the Redskins this week can propel them into the playoffs with all of America watching, or will they shrink under the weight of expectation? And if the Redskins do make the playoffs, which team out of the possible opponents would be ideal? Lastly, can the Redskins go beyond week one of the postseason, or are they facing another one-and-done disappointment?

All that and more with two former NFL players and one bearded hipster on this week's On the Warpath

For the Washington Redskins 2016 hopes and dreams, it all comes down to this; a win in week 17 versus the New York Giants, and the Redskins will almost certainly find themselves in the playoffs.

Together, your hosts Chad and Mark cast our eyes forward to this pivotal game and discuss the big questions. Will the Giants rest their starters given that they are locked into 5th seed? What do the Redskins need to do to win this game? Who will the Redskins likely opponents be if they do make the playoffs? And finally, the question that seems to be generating quite a lot of debate; do the Redskins deserve to make playoffs?

All that and more in what may be, but hopefully won't be, the last Redskins Capital Connection of this 2016 Washington Redskins season!

You've seen them debate on Twitter multiple times, but this week, at long last, they go head-to-head in front of microphones...

That's right; this week your On the Warpath hosts Anthony Raposa and Robert Henson have dialed up Redskins Capital Connection czar Chad Ryan to come on to the show and have a good old fashioned debate!

Wasting no time, the first question tonight focuses on Kirk Cousins, and how much you'd offer him in a long-term deal moving forward, and what you'd do to secure him. Following that, we dive head first into the other pressing issues like choosing what to do with DeSean Jackson and Pierre Garcon, and how Scot McCloughan could fix this Redskins defense.

It's a monster show this week, perfect for those long drives home for Christmas.

Happy Holidays to all our listeners, and we hope you enjoy this week's show.

With a brutal loss to the Carolina Panthers on Monday Night Football, the Washington Redskins no longer control their own fate when it comes to their chase for the playoffs.

To help get an outside perspective on where the Redskins find themselves in the grand scheme of things now, Redskins Capital Connection hosts Chad and Mark are joined by return guest Marc Sessler (NFL.com/Around the NFL).

Together they discuss whether or not Kirk Cousins' future in Washington is locked in, what changes should be made to the coaching staff, and why the game against Chicago on Christmas Eve could be more dangerous than people may suspect, to name just a few of the topics covered.

It's always a light-hearted affair here on the Redskins Capital Connection, even when things may be bleak for Washington! Thanks for listening.

The On the Warpath crew is back once again, and once again hosts Anthony Raposa and Robert Henson are joined by Robbie Duncan to help them break down all this week's big Redskins questions!

With Josh Norman facing his old team for the first time, and the Redskins in a position to mathematically eliminate the Panthers from the 2016 playoffs this week, will Josh get his revenge? Or will a struggling Redskins defense fail to contain Cam Newton, despite his apparent form slump? And even if the Redskins do win this week, have they left it too little and too late for a genuine playoff run?

With so much happening around Redskins park, it's a mammoth episode of Redskins Capital Connection this week as hosts Chad and Mark are joined by Master Tesfatsion (The Washington Post) to break it all down;

Josh Norman's pivotal battle against his former team this week could see his newly adopted Redskins formally end the Panthers season - how does that weigh on Norman and is he the kind of player who will have had this game circled on the calendar for a while?

Beyond just Josh Norman, this is a huge game for the Redskins this week as they remain in the hunt for the NFC wildcard ticket to the playoffs, but they need to keep winning to stay within reach.

We also ask the question that has been dominating Redskins social media this week; who do you keep in 2017 between DeSean Jackson and Pierre Garcon?

We dive head first in to all the key aspects of this week's game, and leave no stone unturned, unless we have deemed that stone ugly and boring. We aren't stone communists, after all.

When the going gets tough, the tough get going. But how tough are these Washington Redskins? That is the central theme of debate on this week's episode of On the Warpath, as hosts Anthony Raposa and Rob Henson are joined by Redskins Capital Connection's own superstar rookie Robbie Duncan

The Cardinals loss last weekend hurt the Redskins in their hunt for the wildcard spot in this year's playoffs, so who is to blame? And after the game Coach Gruden gave the players a classic old fashioned spray, but how much does that actually help the team moving forward? Furthermore, now that Trent Williams has returned it is fair to ask; did his suspension cost the Redskins a win?

It's another fun episode this week, so kick back, relax, and listen to two self proclaimed 'super-nerds' go toe-to-toe against a former NFL player and see who comes out on top!

Week 14 w/ JP Finlay

As we enter the last month of the 2016 NFL regular season, the Washington Redskins find themselves a half-game outside of the playoffs. They remain well and truly in the hunt, but this past weekend's loss to the Arizona Cardinals has seriously dinged their momentum heading into the business end of the season. Can they bounce back?

That is the question that hosts Chad and Mark start off with this week, before dialing up friend of the show JP Finlay (Redskins Insider for CSN). Together, the boys check in on the status of Spencer Long (concussion protocol) and Jordan Reed, and then talk about the Redskins defense and the growing 'fire Joe Barry' calls on social media. We finish it up with a discussion on the simple question; 'if Gruden wants more run plays, why doesn't he just call more run plays?'.

It's a fun and insightful chat, and one which we are sure Redskins fans far and wide will enjoy.

It seems like a lifetime since the Redskins last played, thanks to the 10 day break they find themselves on. But that break is soon to come to an end as the team travels to Arizona to take on the Cardinals on Sunday afternoon, in what is shaping up as a huge game for both outfits.

Your hosts Anthony Raposa and Robert Henson are here to help you undertstand arguments for and against the big questions surrounding the game, such as 'can the Redskins contain David Johnson', 'are the Cardinals a trap team?', and 'do you see a scenario where Kirk Cousins may walk out on the Washington Redskins?'.

Week 13 w/ Brian McNally

It feels like an era has passed since the Redskins lost to the Cowboys on Thanksgiving - almost a full week ago! And yet, that was just 'last round', and it's back to business this week as Washington travels to Arizona.

There is no shortage of intrigue surrounding this game, including injury clouds over key players for both sides, the playoff hunt, and the fact that this is very much a 'last stand' game for the Cardinals. So with all that in mind, hosts Chad and Mark dial up our good friend and Redskins insider Brian McNally (106.7 The Fan/CBS Local Washington) to help us break it all down.

As always, we dive head first in to the big questions, and we hope you enjoy it!

This Washington Redskins team is officially on fire! A huge prime-time win against the Green Bay Packers has everyone around the Redskins feeling frisky and feeling good. Just ask Kirk Cousins!

There's so much happening with Cousins now that we decided to bring in the big guns this week to help us unpack his past, present, and future with the team. So hosts Chad and Mark called up their good friend Dan Steinberg from the Washington Post and the founder of the world famous DC Sports Bog to help us really analyze it.

Will Kirk Cousins play force the Redskins hand come contract time? Could McCloughan convince fans that spending big money on a Quarterback isn't necessary? What does Cousins have to do for the rest of 2016 to cement that massive contract offer? All those questions and more this week!

To help them preview this week's game, hosts Chad and Mark are once again joined by Redskins Insider Rich Tandler from CSN Mid-Atlantic.

Once they solve that crisis, they take a more general look at the Vikings this week, because it has all the markings of a potential trap game for Washington.

And lastly, as we're at the midway point of the season, together they make their picks for which players will break out in the second half of the season. (Spoiler alert; it's not Trent Williams).

Together, they ask the question 'how will Trent Williams suspension affect the team moving forward', as well as discussing the Running Back situation between Rob Kelley and Matt Jones, and what the Redskins need to be focusing on during the bye week.

Preseason September 4 - The 53 man roster

The toughest day of the year for any General Manager in the NFL is roster cut-down day, where the teams have to whittle their roster from 75 to 53. Talk to any player or coach, even superstar veterans, and they'll tell you that it's the worst part of the football calendar, and often entails watching many young players dreams of making it in the NFL end.

On the flipside, it's also the time of year where fairytales come true; the undrafted free agent who works his way on to the squad through sheer will and determination gets rewarded with a roster spot.

Hosts Chad and Mark bring you all the angles from the Redskins cut-day, as we look at who made it, who didn't, and what it means for the Redskins roster in its present state. To do this, they are once again joined by Brian McNally, the Redskins beat reporter for 106.7 The Fan.

Day eight of Redskins Training Camp saw the attention focused on the second and third units today, as the players head into an off day tomorrow. All in all, the first teams had another light day, which gives host Chad and substitute co-host Anthony a great opportunity to take stock and reflect on the first week of Training Camp.

Later in the show, we sit down with Running Back Chris Thompson, who is quietly having a superb camp as he continues to make big plays each and every day. We also have a quick chat to Cornerback Josh Norman, who has consistently been the last player off of the field after practices, and who by far spends the most time signing autographs for the fans.

As we said, the Redskins have an off day on Saturday, so we'll be back on Sunday with all of your Training Camp coverage.

Training Camp Day 7 w/ Will Blackmon & Steven Daniels

Some positive signs for the Washington Redskins offense on day 7 of training camp, but with a big caveat.

Join hosts Chad and Mark as they take you through a full recap of today's Redskins practice, and explain why Quarterback Kirk Cousins strong day may need to be qualified with an asterisk.

Later in the show, Boston College alums Will Blackmon and Steven Daniels sit down with us to talk life as a 10 year veteran compared to life as a rookie, and find out the truth about whether or not Blackmon ever came back to school to support the team after he left.

As always, it's a fun show filled with some laughs as we give you everything you need to know from the Bon Secours training facility here in Richmond, Virginia.

Training Camp Day 6, w/ Will Compton & Mason Foster

It was a light session for the Washington Redskins on day six of Training Camp, as the focus was on the Special Teams unit. For those players without any Special Teams responsibilities, their practice consisted of some basic conditioning and weights drills.

That doesn't mean that there wasn't much to talk about today, however, and your hosts Chad and Mark give you the full recap of the day's training.

Today we were also fortunate enough to sit down with Linebackers Will Compton and Mason Foster, better known to some as the 'bash brothers'. Anyone who is familiar with these two off of the field will know that they're always a blast to talk to, and sitting down with both of them at once effectively doubles that impact. We ask them what it's like to enter a Training Camp and preseason as the presumptive starters, what they're seeing from the improved secondary behind them since the arrival of Josh Norman, and after all of that, we run them through the Redskins Capital Connection lightning round.

It's a fun one today, folks. We hope you enjoy it.

Training Camp Day 5 w/ Entire Special Teams Unit

The Washington Redskins continue to get down to business in Richmond, as dav five of training camp saw the players focusing on the fundamentals of football.

Hosts Chad and Mark are live on media row on the field at the Bon Secours training facility, and although it can get rowdy at times, they are bringing you the best access you'll find anywhere.

On today's show you'l hear our full recap of today's practice, including yet another highlight play from Cornerback Bashaud Breeland, who continues to shine for the Redskins throughout camp.

After that, Chad and Mark sit down with the entire Redskins special teams unit - Tress Way, Nick Sundberg and Dustin Hopkins, as we ask them about life in the special teams meeting room, and how training camp differs for the specialists. To finish up, we take all three of them through the Redskins Capital Connection lightning round, which is 'can't miss' listening!

Training Camp Day 4 w/ Duke Ihenacho

The conditions were hot and sticky out here in Richmond for day four of Redskins Training Camp, but thankfully that wasn't reflected in the play on the field.

Hosts Chad and Mark are live on the field at the Bon Secours training facility, and throughout camp the theme continues to be the dominance of the Redskins defense over the offense.

On today's episode we give you the full recap of day four's action, plus we sit down with Redskins Safety Duke Ihenacho and ask him about what it's like to matchup versus Jordan Reed, as well as his thoughts on the impact that Josh Norman brings to this secondary.

All that and more on another episode of the Redskins Capital Connection podcast!

Day 3 of Redskins Training Camp was almost over before it began, with thunderstorms and lightning seeing fans evacuated from the Bon Secours facility following the morning walkthrough session. Thankfully, the weather abated and the Redskins hit the practice field wearing their pads for the first time this year.

It was another back and forth day, with both the offense and defense making some big plays throughout the session. We also had our first melee of camp, and there’s no prizes for guessing which Redskins player was involved.

Your hosts Chad and Mark will take you through all of the happenings from day 3, as well as sitting down with Morgan Moses for an interview with the starting Right Tackle.

Offseason July 6 - Fantasy Focus w/ Matt Harmon & Karl Safchick

We are now at the half-way point of the quietest part of the football calendar; those dreary six weeks between minicamp/OTAs and the start of training camp.

And yet; all around the world, football fans are donning their jerseys, loading up on snacks, and piling into living rooms, bars and garages for one of the greatest rituals known to man; the fantasy football draft.

That's right - this week's episode focuses solely on fantasy football, and to help us figure out which Redskins players to target (and which to avoid) in different types of fantasy leagues this year, we've dialed up two of the best in the fantasy business; Matt Harmon (NFL.com/The Backyard Banter) and Karl Safchick (Dynasty One Fantasy)!

Today's episode is a must-listen for any Redskins fans who, like us, are always tempted to target at least one Redskins player in their respective fantasy leagues.

Offseason June 29 - Analyzing WRs, RBs & TEs

This week, hosts Chad and Mark are once again joined by Mark Bullock (Washington Post) and Anthony Raposa (Redskins Capital Connection) for part three of our three-part series analyzing the various position groups on the Redskins roster.

In this final installment, the panel discusses the Wide Receivers, Running Backs and Tight Ends on the Redskins roster. First round rookie Josh Doctson will have some sort of role to play this year, but how big remains to be seen. The starting Running Back job will be in the hands of someone new this year, but is it Matt Jones' job to lose, or will he face competition? And at Tight End, there certainly appears to be more competent players than roster spots, so who are the odd men out?

All that and more as we have a few laughs but also talk some serious X and O's on this week's edition of the Redskins Capital Connection.

Offseason June 23 - Analyzing the Front 7

This episode is part two of a three part weekly series where the Redskins Capital Connection team provides an in-depth analysis of the different team units.

Hosts Chad and Mark are joined by friends of the show Anthony Raposa (Redskins Capital Connection) and Mark Bullock (The Washington Post) to continue our series by looking at the front seven this week; the Inside Linebackers, Edge Rushers and Interior Defensive Line.

There are a lot of questions and points of interest with the front seven; Preston Smith enters his sophomore year. Junior Galette returns from injury. The team enters 2016 without a true Nose Tackle. There will be fierce competition for spots at Inside Linebacker.

We break down which players on the bubble we believe will make the team, who the sleepers to watch are, and what we feel the strengths of the collective unit can be this season.

Hosts Chad and Mark are joined by friends of the show Anthony Raposa (Redskins Capital Connection) and Mark Bullock (The Washington Post) to begin our series by looking at the Defensive Backs.

Competition for spots is fierce at both the Safety and Corner positions, and with talented guys like Josh Norman and Bashaud Breeland leading the way, it's possible that the 2016 Redskins may field the strongest Defensive Backs group that Washington fans have seen in decades.

Hosts Chad and Mark are joined once again by Marc Sessler (NFL media/Around the NFL podcast), and together we break down why it isn't crazy that Redskins fans should be feeling quietly confident about the prospect of hosting Aaron Rodgers.

Marc also compares Kirk Cousins to one of the characters from Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and we discuss whether or not the "nobody believes in us" mentality can continue for Washington this week.
